Brian Boyle scored twice and the Tampa Bay Lightning used a three-goal first period to beat the Anaheim Kings 5-3 Sunday at Amalie Arena.
Boyle opened the scoring 2:55 in when he connected on a one-timer after Victor Hedman had set up the veteran with some nifty moves down the right wing.
Valtteri Filppula scored his 11th goal of the season at 13:42 before Nikita Kucherov made it 3-0 with 1:08 left in the frame when he converted Tyler Johnson’s cross ice pass with an outstretched stick.
The Ducks (34-13-7) got on the board 4:49 into the second as Ryan Getzlaf scored his 200th career goal after finishing off Corey Perry’s pass through the crease.
Tampa Bay (34-16-5) restored their three-goal lead at 14:27 as Boyle bagged his second goal of the game.
Ryan Callahan added a fifth goal for the Bolts at 6:14 of third before Anaheim’s Sami Vatenen scored on the power play at 14:57. Former Bolts defenceman Eric Brewer completed the scoring when he netted his first goal for the Ducks with 2:34 left in regulation.
Filppula also added two assists, as did Stamkos and Brett Connolly. The Bolts went 0-for-5 with the man advantage however.
Ben Bishop, who was pulled after the first period Saturday in a 4-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings, made 20 saves. Frederik Andersen made 13 saves but left the game late due to injury and was replace by Ilya Bryzgalov.
Brenden Morrow was scratched for the Bolts while Jason Garrison sat out again due to a lower body injury.
Tampa Bay are on the road Tuesday when they battle the Nashville Predators at 8 p.m.
