Jason Garrison scored the game-winner 2:29 into the third period as the Tampa Bay Lightning edged the Washington Capitals 4-3 Saturday night.
Garrison took the feed from a clean Steven Stamkos faceoff win and unleashed a wrister from the blue line that got through a lot of traffic and by Caps goalie Braden Holtby.
The Bolts (8-3-1) also got goals from Ryan Callahan in the first period, while Ondrej Palat and Nikita Kucherov scored in the second frame.
Marcus Johansson answered Callahan’s goal to make it 1-1 after one, while Eric Fehr gave Washington (4-4-2) the lead 2:11 into the second. After the Bolts took a 3-2 lead, Troy Brouwer tied the game with 59 seconds left in the second period.
Ben Bishop made 38 saves while Holtby stopped 28 shots.
After having his point streak snapped last game, Tyler Johnson got back to work with two assists giving him 13 on the season.
The Bolts were 0-for-2 with the man advantage while Washington converted one of their two opportunities thanks to the Brouwer’s goal.
Tampa Bay lost forward Alex Killorn in the second period due to an upper body injury.
The Lightning next play Thursday when they host Calgary, who they beat on the road 2-1 in overtime just 11 days ago.
