College football season is only weeks away now and for the University of South Florida Bulls it starts another year in which they will seek to improve on what was a disappointing 2013 season.
They begin camp tomorrow and held a media session today. Here are a collection of notes from the media session, courtesy of the local media and USF’s football twitter page.
- Coach Willie Taggert says a “bowl game’s a must.”
- No starter has been named at quarterback and said “it’s a job for somebody to take.”
- Taggert did say that there are two quarterbacks who can win USF games but didn’t mention names
- He also mentioned that he could name a starter by the second week of training camp
- Taggert thinks wide receiver Rodney Adams will have a big impact
- Wide receiver Austin Aikens has joined the team as a walk-on
- Center Austin Reiter has deliberately put on weight over the offseason
- Star wide out Andre Davis likes the team’s receiving corps
- He had a lot of praise for Adams, who transfered from Toledo
- Linebacker Reshard Cliett is healthy for the new season
- Despite being a Top-25 defense last season, Cliett wants the Bulls to be Top-10
- Taggert said that running backs Marlon Mack and D’Ernest Johnson “are gonna have to play for us this year.” (taken from AAC media day on July 29)
Also, courtesy of Joey Knight of the TB Times, here’s a two-deep preseason depth chart that is worth checking out.
Former Bulls linebacker Kawika Mitchell has also been added to the USF/IMG Radio Network as a sideline reporter.
The Bulls open their season on August 30 at Raymond James Stadium against Western Carolina.
