The Orlando Magic have signed point guard Peyton Siva but purely for depth and developmental purposes as he will not be on the Magic’s roster come opening night.

Instead, Siva will head to the D-League.

Robbins adds that Siva will “receive a small dollar guarantee, which will supplement his D-League salary.”

In 24 games with the Detroit Pistons last season, Siva averaged 2.3 PPG, 1.4 APG and 0.6 RPG. He was the 56th overall pick in last year’s draft.

He also appeared in 10 D-League games with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants averaging 12.9 PPG, 4.6 APG and 2.6 RPG.

Siva was a member of the 2013 Louisville team that won the men’s college basketball title in 2013. He averaged 10 PPG that season for Rick Pitino’s side.

The Magic already have the 15 spots on their roster filled so it wouldn’t have been possible for Siva to crack the team. 13 of those 15 contracts are guaranteed too.

For Siva, going to the D-League will provide him with the opportunity to play regularly every night, something that he didn’t get much of last season.

This offseason, the Magic has revamped their backcourt by bringing in Ben Gordon, Evan Fournier, Luke Ridnour, Willie Green, Devyn Marble and Elfrid Payton.
