Ben Bishop made 28 saves and Steven Stamkos scored twice as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-0 Friday night at Amalie Arena.

After a scoreless first period, in which the Lightning wasted a four-minute power play, Brian Boyle broke the deadlock at 8:27 of the second on a one-timer after receiving a lovely behind-the-back pass from Jonathan Drouin behind the net.

Stamkos scored his first of the night and 33rd of the season with 2:07 left in the period when he redirected a Jason Garrison slap shot past Blackhawks goaltender Scott Darling.

Tampa Bay, whose recent power play struggles are well documented, bagged a pair of extra man goals in the third.

First, Ryan Callahan tipped in a Valtteri Filppula pass at 7:37 before Stamkos’ wrister made it 4-0 at 17:15. Tampa Bay was 2-for-6 with the man advantage.

Darling made 25 saves for Chicago. It was Bishop’s second shutout of the season, the other coming on Dec. 4 during a 13-save performance in a 5-0 win.

Brenden Morrow and Luke Witowski were scratched.

With the win, Tampa Bay sits three points Montreal for top spot in the Eastern Conference having played two more games.

The Bolts are on the road Sunday when they visit their in-state rival Florida Panthers.
