The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got their first win of the 2014 preseason as they beat the Buffalo Bills 27-14 Saturday afternoon.

The Bucs starters played into the third quarter and built a 24-0 half time lead so there were a number of standout performers.

Mike Evans

The Bucs’ rookie wide receiver had three catches for 44 yards including his first career touchdown as a pro late in the second quarter on a 24-yard connection with Josh McCown.

His touchdown also atoned for his fumble last week at the goal line that cost the Bucs seven points. Evans also didn’t seem to let yesterdays off field issues distract him and he looks like everything the Bucs hoped he would be when they took him with the 7th overall pick in the draft.

Larry English

Signed only nine days ago, the six-year pro is looking more and more likely to earn a spot on the Bucs’ final 53-man roster. On Saturday, English had three tackles but more importantly had two sacks. With Da’Quan Bowers still on the sidelines, English could very well be taking his spot on the roster and his play would justify Tampa Bay keeping him around.

Doug Martin

Martin had his best outing of the preseason as he rushed 12 times for 38 yards while also scoring on a one-yard touchdown run. Martin also added two catches for 27 yards, the first of which went for 21 yards, setting up his touchdown run. While the Bucs’ running game has struggled somewhat this preseason, Martin looked in top form Saturday as he fought for every yard and made sure he fell forward when tackled.
